About the Artist
From an early age, the marriage of art and technology fueled Rich's passion for architecture and ignited his interest in photography. His architectural training has influenced his view of the world as expressed in his photography.
Following a successful career as an architect, he now devotes full time to travel and his pursuit of capturing beauty and harmony in nature, the built environment, and the intersection of both in his photographs.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
After developing a passion for photography in high school, I acquired my first SLR camera during my freshman year at Carnegie-Mellon, where I was studying architecture. There was a natural intersection between my study of light, form, scale, proportion, and composition in design, and my attention to the same elements photographically. Spending hours in the dark room in college continued after graduation, while professionally I focused on designing buildings with a strong relationship with nature, a concept that is central to both my architecture and photography.
As the practice of architecture evolved employing highly technical computer programs, so did photography with the advent of the digital camera and post processing tools like Lightroom and Photoshop. I was hooked again with how technology advanced both architecture and photography. Over the years, travel to explore cities and buildings grew to include hiking and camping, taking me throughout the US, Canada, China, and Iceland.
In early 2021, I moved on from the successful architecture firm that I had led, to focus full time on travel and photography. Each person experiences the world through their own eyes; I hope that you enjoy the world seen through my lens as much as I enjoy capturing these photos.
